RFSF is Almost Here

Mark your calendars for Reading Fall Street Faire on Sunday, September 8 from noon to 5 pm in Downtown Reading.

The 11th Annual RFSF, hosted by Reading Rotary, is an annual community event bringing together local restaurants, retail businesses and community groups for a fun-filled, family-friendly day.  The Faire route will feature numerous vendors and community group booths to visit.  This is always a fantastic day to celebrate our community and to meet and mingle with friends and neighbors.

The Faire also features: Children’s Area, Kids’ Zone, performances on three stages, a Car Show, NFL Tailgate, Cornhole Tournament, 5K Road Race (at 8:30 am at Washington Park), pie eating contest, dunk tank, food, fun and much more.  To participate in the 5K or the Cornhole, please register on the RFSF website.

Volunteers are needed!  Please sign up to volunteer on the RFSF website.

For registration links and additional information, please visit www.fallstreetfaire.com.  Or if you have questions, you may contact info.readingfallstreetfaire@gmail.com or readingmarotary@gmail.com.
RFSF 5K

The Reading Fall Street Faire 5k Race will take place at Washington Park, 100 Washington Street, at 8:30 am on Sunday, September 8, 2019. The race takes place before the 11th annual Reading Fall Street Faire festivities, which begin at noon.

Lori Haverty of Tread on Linden Street, Tread on the Mill on High Street and, her newest location, Tread on East in Winchester, is once again coordinating the race sponsored by Salem Five.

“I am happy to be planning a family race at the Street Faire and happy to welcome Salem Five as the road race gold sponsor. We are looking forward to families running together in this annual family-friendly community event,” said Haverty. “While we hope for a cool September morning, this event is rain or shine. Besides, running in the rain is fun!”

The 5k race has played a popular role in the Faire since 2010 and is a great way for friends and neighbors to get together for some fun and friendly competition after the summer recess. The course for the race is moderate, not only approachable for casual runners, but also a great speed challenge for the pros. Children are encouraged to run with their families. The course starts at Washington Park and winds through some of Reading's most beautiful neighborhoods, including Hillcrest Avenue, Oak Street, Walnut Street and Summer Avenue.

After the race head directly over to the Lower Faire Stage on Haven Street for an Awards Ceremony. Prizes for our Race Winners will be given out during the ceremony, but don't leave yet. You will want to stay for the food, drinks and activities for the whole family at the 11th Annual Fall Street Faire.

The times to beat are 15:57 for males and 19:40 for females.

You can pickup your bib number and registration package on race day at Washington Park starting at 7:00am -8:15am. You can also grab your bib number beforehand on Saturday, September 7th from 11 am to 3 pm at "Tread on the Mill" located at 13 High Street in Reading, MA.  Located in the back of the lot behind Square Liquors.

Cost to participate is $25 registering in advance online.  Day of race registration $30 cash or check only. There are no refunds; the race is rain or shine. Runners should arrive at Washington Park at 7:45 for a prompt 8 o’clock start. Register online at fallstreetfaire.com.

Cornhole & NFL Tailgate Return to the RFSF
Just when you thought the Street Faire had something for everyone, the Rotary Club has found something else!  Bring your tossing talents and your competitive friends to the 2nd Annual Corn Hole Tournament at the Reading Fall Street Faire on September 8.

The Cornhole Tournament will be held at the site of the NFL Tailgate in the former Rite Aid parking lot off Haven Street.

“Cornhole has become a popular game in the region over the last few years,” said Cornhole Tournament Co-Coordinator Pete Coumounduros. “Expert on beginner, it is fun for all.  The challenge is on, beginner or expert.  The real brains of this tournament is my fellow Co-Coordinator Jonathan Gorski who ensures the quality and smooth running operation.”  Pete is a member of Friends of Reading Recreation and is partnering with Reading Rotary to put on this event again in 2019.  All proceeds from the Cornhole Tournament will benefit the FORR and Reading Rotary.

“Grab a friend for an exciting day at the Reading Fall Street Faire, the most popular event in Reading,” added RFSF Chair & Rotarian John Feudo. “The Cornhole Classic is a double elimination style tournament with official scoring and brackets. There will be prizes for the winners, but it’s really about Town bragging rights!”

The players will get free entrance to the Patriots’ Tailgate event and 3 beer tickets – a $10 value.  This year the Tailgate will be held in the Rite Aid parking lot on Haven Street.

The Tailgate is sponsored this year by Beacon Consulting and CTA Construction.  The Tailgate will have NFL football games on the big screen, beer and sliders.  The Tailgate has been a very popular mainstay of the RFSF.  Make sure you come on by on Sept. 8.  To register for Cornhole, go to the Fall Street Faire’s website, fallstreetfaire.com, and direct any questions about the event to info.fallstreetfaire.com.
No Meeting on Labor Day
Please remember we do not meet on Labor Day (Sept. 2).  Enjoy the day.
Service is Timeless

Reading Rotary is partnering with Reading Cooperative Bank and the friends and family of Camille Anthony to provide a fund for donations in the memory of Camille for a clock to be erected in downtown Reading.

Camille was a long time community volunteer, service notably on the Select Board, Conservation Committee, Town Meeting and numerous other Town committees.  She was a steady hand in Reading.

Camille always wanted to see a prominent clock somewhere in Downtown Reading.  To help see her vision as a reality, you may donate to the Service is Timeless Fund at Reading Cooperative Bank.  You may make your donation online also here.
